Review Day

Today in class we continued to check for our books for the right owners. Besides that we went over the practice test and you gave us the answers. I was glad we got to go over it, but I was so tired I kinda of got the material. I wrote all the answers down to all the questions and hopefully that will help me know the questions a little bit better. Everyday its getting closer to exams and I am getting more and more nervous. Other than going over the practice exam we really did not do anything else. WE DID HAVE SOME GOOD LAUGHS!!! HAHA.

Exam Time!

Today in class we got our book accounted for and to see if they were actually ours. We also took the practice test. I did it over break and I got a 48%. I was then really nervous because I thought I was definitely going to fail the exam. I took my time with it today and kinda felt better about the test. I really need to focus and study hard for the week. I think that the exam is going to be hard and challenging. Hopefully I will do well and get good grades on all of my exams. I am excited for the exams to be over and start the new semester. I checked your blog tonight and I saw that you wanted us to finish the test and submit it to you. I was wondering if I had to do it again or you were ok with me doing it over break and getting a bad grade. If you want you can email me or something to show me you got my message.

Developed or Not Developed
United States: I would consider the United States a developed country. I think this because there is a high population, and low death rate. The US has money, a good government, ok economy, and natural resources. This country has lots of money to do many things.
Nigeria: I would consider a developing country. This country is very poor and needs a lot of help. They have a high death rate and they have many young people. I feel with all the young people they have, they could become a better country with new and intelligent minds of all the young people. Although they have a high infant mortality rate of 94 and they have a low life expectancy.
Ethiopia: Ethiopia is a developing country because they are not that rich and have many bad things in statistics. They have a life infant mortality rate and low life expectancy. A deveolped country does not have these types of problems. Also, they have thousands of young people, but barely any old people.
Sudan: This country is definitely a developing country. Sudan has so many problems and there is war. They do not have barely and money, food, shelter, water, or basic necessities. Developed countries have all the things that they do not have. They do not have any time of health care, or any good things to help the people live. Sudan needs a lot of work and help to maybe become a developed country. All the countries in Africa all have the same problem. They all have young people and very little old people, no money or health care. Also, they have no food or water, they are all poor.
○ Kenya: Kenya is also a developing country. It is poor, has very little health care, and barely any education. Kenya also has war and bad things happening in their country. All these things will not help the developing of their country. They need all the things that the rich countries have.
○ South Africa: South America, I think is a developed country. This country has many people and could develop more into a better country. I feel like this country is both a devolving and developed country. It can go either way. They still have things to be improved, but I feel like they are on their way to a good path.

Presentations

Today in class we went to the brown room and watched presentations. It seemed like they were all from Indian culture. Many of the things had bead and deer hide. The people of the culture seemed like they used every last bit of everything they got. They never wasted everything and always found a way to use the different parts. Many of the things had deer hide, beads, and wool. Each product had something different about it. They all were used for something different. There was a lot of interesting things and products. This culture used lots of crops and animals to help them live. I learned alot.

12-16-09

Today in class we handed in our paper's and learned about the new project we are going to do. Eww! The new project seems easy and a good way to get 50 points. I think that Ally and I did a really good job on our paper. I think that we will get a good grade. Also, we have a whole funny conversation about Lauren Hiem and Mitchell. It was so funny I could not stop laughing. Another fun and interesting class.

12-15-09

In human geo class we took a test on the Sudan movie. I thought that the test was hard. I do not think that I did a good job. After the test we worked on our paper. I think that we did a really good job and that we deserve a good grade. Hopefully we got a good grade and I did a good job on the test. I am glad that the paper is over with!

12-11-09

Today we finished watching the movie. I absolutely loved that movie. That is the type of movie that makes you want to go help as many people that you can. It inspired me to help others and be more appreciative of what I have. After the movie we talked about it for a little bit, then we started to work on the paper again. I joined the group on Facebook for John Bul. I am definitely going to get this movie and show it to my family. I had fun watching and laughing during the movie.

.1. What Academy Award winning actress narrates the documentary?

§ Nicole Kidman

2. In what countries does the film take place?

○ Sudan
○ Ethiopia
○ South Africa
○ Kenya

3. List the main characters of the film.

§ Panther boid
□ Father was a farmer and cattle keeper
§ John Bul
§ Daniel Abul Patch

4. Define refugee.
Someone who flees their country because of civil war and extremely bad conditions like war

5. Define IDP.
International displaced Persons

6. The film centers around a group of boys. What are they called? § They are called the Lost Boys

7. Track the movement of the boys after they leave their homes in their original country (the answer to number 2).
They leave their country to go to Sudan, then there is war and the Muslims want to kill all the boys and sterilize them. Next, they go to Ethiopia. The boys stay there for a while then they have to move to Kenya.

8. What are some major differences between the lives of the boys and your own life, specifically when they are living in the refugee camps?

They do not have any necessities that will help them live like we do. They do not have a good education, showers, food, water, shelter, and electricity. We have all things that they have never even heard of. They are also confined in the camp grounds and they do not have the freedom we do. In the movie they said that they do not even have parents because they do not know if they died or not. We also have money and jobs, that they do not have besides farming. They appreciate things a lot more than we do, because they have nothing.

9. What are some of the difficulties that they boys must deal with when they arrive in the United States? How are their lives different in the United States in comparison to their home countries?

The boys have to be able to adjust to their new life. That is the biggest challenge for them, I think. Also, they need to find a job and start providing for themselves. The boys need to figure out how to manage money and figure out the everything in the US works. All the things in the US, such as a household and jobs, are very different to what they are used to in Sudan. Also, in Sudan all the things that they need they either have to search for or make, in the US it is already made. The US has a lot more money and technology then Sudan. Basically Sudan is way behind in technology and are still behind from the rest of the World. In Sudan there are no jobs and people giving them money, here you get paid and have a good job. It seems like the US and Sudan are like classes. US is higher class and Sudan is lower class, based on what they have.

10. Answer the following question only after you conclude the viewing of the film:

The title of the film, "God Grew Tired of Us", seems to be somewhat ironic after hearing the account of the boys first hand. Explain why the title is ironic using specific examples from the film. Do the boys really believe that God had abandoned them? Or is their faith stronger than ever? Why? Give examples

I think that it is actually ironic how the title does really fit the movie. During the boys trip to Kenya, they thought since all the boys were dying, they believed that God didn't care for them anymore. They thought that God did not want to watch over or take care of them anymore. They thought God would help them all survive, and when they lost thousands of boys, they thought God gave up. I think that the boys believe in God the whole time, but they were so delusional from do food or water, that they thought he gave up on them. The boys wanted all the lost boys to survive, and when they didn't they all thought that God abandoned them. Also, they thought this because they had to leave their families behind and not know if they would ever see them again. I think once they got in the US, their faith grew a lot stronger. Especially John because he got a job, went to school, founded a organization, helped the people back in his country, and found his mother. That all would not have happened if he did not have courage and if God was on his side. Once Panther came to the US he got a job, went back to school, helped people on his country and married his wife. They all had a piece of God with them throughout their whole life. They would not be alive if God was not with them.Pasted from
