6. The film centers around a group of boys. What are they called? § They are called the Lost Boys
7. Track the movement of the boys after they leave their homes in their original country (the answer to number 2).
○ They leave their country to go to Sudan, then there is war and the Muslims want to kill all the boys and sterilize them. Next, they go to Ethiopia. The boys stay there for a while then they have to move to Kenya.
8. What are some major differences between the lives of the boys and your own life, specifically when they are living in the refugee camps? ○
They do not have any necessities that will help them live like we do. They do not have a good education, showers, food, water, shelter, and electricity. We have all things that they have never even heard of. They are also confined in the camp grounds and they do not have the freedom we do. In the movie they said that they do not even have parents because they do not know if they died or not. We also have money and jobs, that they do not have besides farming. They appreciate things a lot more than we do, because they have nothing.
9. What are some of the difficulties that they boys must deal with when they arrive in the United States? How are their lives different in the United States in comparison to their home countries?
○ The boys have to be able to adjust to their new life. That is the biggest challenge for them, I think. Also, they need to find a job and start providing for themselves. The boys need to figure out how to manage money and figure out the everything in the US works. All the things in the US, such as a household and jobs, are very different to what they are used to in Sudan. Also, in Sudan all the things that they need they either have to search for or make, in the US it is already made. The US has a lot more money and technology then Sudan. Basically Sudan is way behind in technology and are still behind from the rest of the World. In Sudan there are no jobs and people giving them money, here you get paid and have a good job. It seems like the US and Sudan are like classes. US is higher class and Sudan is lower class, based on what they have.
10. Answer the following question only after you conclude the viewing of the film:
The title of the film, "God Grew Tired of Us", seems to be somewhat ironic after hearing the account of the boys first hand. Explain why the title is ironic using specific examples from the film. Do the boys really believe that God had abandoned them? Or is their faith stronger than ever? Why? Give examples
○ I think that it is actually ironic how the title does really fit the movie. During the boys trip to Kenya, they thought since all the boys were dying, they believed that God didn't care for them anymore. They thought that God did not want to watch over or take care of them anymore. They thought God would help them all survive, and when they lost thousands of boys, they thought God gave up. I think that the boys believe in God the whole time, but they were so delusional from do food or water, that they thought he gave up on them. The boys wanted all the lost boys to survive, and when they didn't they all thought that God abandoned them. Also, they thought this because they had to leave their families behind and not know if they would ever see them again. I think once they got in the US, their faith grew a lot stronger. Especially John because he got a job, went to school, founded a organization, helped the people back in his country, and found his mother. That all would not have happened if he did not have courage and if God was on his side. Once Panther came to the US he got a job, went back to school, helped people on his country and married his wife. They all had a piece of God with them throughout their whole life. They would not be alive if God was not with them.Pasted from
